Conrad Shawcross
Conrad Shawcross (b.1977 in London, UK) is a British sculptor who works with the complex philosophy of science and nature. Imbued with an appearance of scientific rationality, Shawcross’ sculptures explore subjects that lie on the borders of geometry and philosophy, physics and metaphysics. Throughout his career, Shawcross has experimented with ideal geometries and topologies; these constructions are conceived as systems which could be theoretically extended infinitely into space. In his work, Shawcross has paid tribute to some of the great pioneers and analysts, and considered specific moments or figures from the past. In the end, Shawcross’ art questions what we take for granted and encourages us to see beyond the physical. Shawcross studied at the Westminster school, The Chelsea school of Art, The Ruskin school of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford and the Slade school of Fine Art; he is the youngest living member of the Royal Academy of Arts.
